Product information "Spark plug set NGK 97506 (SILZKBR8D8S) | BMW N54 N55 S55 (E-series & F-series) | M1/M2/M3/M4 etc."

One of the ways in which performance is increased by optimizing the map is by increasing the boost pressure.
Most people are familiar with the optimization of the environment for the development of boost pressure.
In addition to the mixture of boost pressure and gasoline, the ignition angle also has a massive influence on the vehicle's performance. Therefore, the framework for the development of the ignition spark should also be optimized in any case.
The spark plugs themselves are an important factor here.
They are divided into different stages with a heat value, which provides information on how the plug absorbs heat and dissipates it from the combustion chamber.
In short, when increasing performance, the heat value of the spark plugs must be adjusted, as a reduction in the heat value is generally accompanied by more stable ignition.

The colder spark plug leads to more power and “healthier” engine running due to the more stable ignition and fewer ignition corrections. The disadvantage of a colder spark plug is slightly poorer idling when cold.

Note:
When converting from original to NGK spark plugs, you must change from three electrodes to one! In principle, this is completely unproblematic, but may require the electrodes to be bent in order to stabilize the spark. The distance between the earth electrode and the center electrode should be discussed individually before the software optimization.

Information:
- Scope of delivery: 4x/6x NGK 97506 unbent
- two steps colder than N54 OEM plugs, one step colder than N55 and S55 OEM plugs

For the N54 we recommend
For power increases up to 500 hp: NGK 95770 bent to 0.4 to 0.55, which corresponds to a colder heat value than the original N54 spark plugs. Bent to 0.55 - the gap should not be smaller than 0.4.
For power increases over 500 hp: NGK 97506 bent to 0.4 to 0.55, which corresponds to two heat values colder than the original N54 spark plugs.

For the N55 we recommend:
For power increases up to around 430hp: Original OEM plugs.
For power increases above 430 hp: NGK 97506 bent to 0.4 to 0.55, which corresponds to two heat values colder than the original N55 spark plugs.

For the S55 we recommend:
For standard performance: 97506 unbent
For Stage 1/ performance upgrades up to 750 hp: NGK 97506 bent to 0.55.

Please note: These are rough guide values which should ideally be confirmed by analyzing your vehicle's log.

As a rule of thumb, the distance between the ground and center electrodes becomes narrower the more power is used. For vehicles with 102 octane, a gap smaller than 0.45 mm is generally not recommended. When using E85 or water methanol, a smaller gap may be useful in some cases.
