As an alternative to the conventional BMW emblem, the BMW Motorsport emblem signals a passion for racing and for the roots of the BMW M brand.
The BMW Motorsport logo with the staggered semicircles in blue, purple and red was first used in 1973 on the racing cars of BMW Motorsport GmbH, which had been founded the previous year.
It was not until 1978 and the debut of the BMW M1 that the three colour stripes leaning to the right and based on the letter M followed, which to this day are a trademark with a particularly high recognition value and high identification power even beyond the motorsport scene.
